The whole universe is nothing but an illusion created out of consciousness. From consciousness, the universe comes. When the universe disappears, consciousness still remains without the illusory form, time, and space.
People never accept that the universe is an illusion because they are part and parcel of that illusion. The reality of the illusory universe often confuses people.
The universe is an illusion from the standpoint of the Soul, which is the ‘Self.
The Soul is in the form of consciousness. This is because of some logical reasons.
First, analyze the definition of Truth and, hence, why the universe is not considered reality.
The Advaitic wisdom consists in knowing the truth, that everything (mind or physical existence) is consciousness.
Freedom (Soul) is always there, yet one does not know it. But to those whose reason is turned away from physicality and who have attained the serenity of the Soul, the ‘Self’. are quite near to the ultimate truth.
To think one's own body and his experience of the world is an illusion is a difficult matter unless one realizes the ‘Self’ is not you but it is formless, timeless, and spaceless Soul, it is difficult to have a glimpse of truth.
When one realizes the fact that the ‘Self’ is not you but the Soul, naturally, your body and the world in which you exist becomes an illusion.

The Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness alone, is real, and the world in which we exist is unreal.
The world in which we exist has no independent existence apart from consciousness because the world in which we exist is nothing but an illusion created out of consciousness. The world in which we exist is non-different from consciousness.
The eternal, impersonal consciousness Absolute is the ultimate truth or Brahman, the one without a second.
He who has an intense urge to know the truth will find the Self in time."This means that after his external search is finished, he begins his inner journey, and in due course, he will be able to realize the Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness as ultimate truth or Brahman or God in truth.
Consciousness is the universal spirit that is the cause of the world in which you exist, and it, itself, is uncaused.
The seeker must know the world in which they exist in truth. The seeker must know the difference between the worldly truth and the spiritual truth. The worldly truth is based on a dualistic perspective; the spiritual truth is based on a nondualistic perspective.
The spiritual truth is beyond form, time, and space, whereas the worldly truth is based on form, time, and space.: ~ Santthosh Kumaar
