This universe is only the veil of ignorance on the Soul, the Self, which is present in the form of consciousness.
The Self is not you but the Soul, which is hidden by the universe. The Soul is hidden by the universe because the universe is merely a dualistic illusion or Maya created out of the Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness.
Remember: ~
All is consciousness. The whole universe is consciousness. From consciousness, the universe comes. When the universe disappears, consciousness still remains without form, time, and space.
The whole universe is created out of single clay and that single clay is consciousness.
Sage Sankara: ~ VC~"All this universe which through ignorance appears as of diverse forms, is nothing else but Brahman which is absolutely free from all the limitations of Maya.
Rig Veda: ~ The Atman (Soul) is the cause; Atman is the support of all that exists in this universe. May ye never turn away from the Atman, the Self. May ye never accept another God in place of the Atman nor worship other than the Atman?" (10:48, 5)
Sage Sankara says: ~ What is accepted without a proper inquiry will not lead to the final Goal. (Commentary on Vedanta Sutra).
The Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness alone, is real and waking experience, which is present in the form of the universe, is unreal. Consciousness is the ultimate truth or Brahman or God in truth.
Thus, Brahman is undifferentiated consciousness, devoid of parts, attributes, form, changes, or limitations whatsoever.
The Soul, which is present in the form of the consciousness is ‘Self’-luminous and all-pervading and one only, without a second.
The Soul, the ‘Self’ is the fullness of consciousness. In reality, it is ever-free. Within the dualistic illusion, the Soul is caught up in the prison of experience of birth, life, death, and the world.
The world in which we exist is merely an illusion created out of consciousness. the dualistic illusion is the product of ignorance.
Consciousness is existence absolute, awareness absolute. Existence absolute means that consciousness is not unreal or non-existent. And it is not the unconsciousness. Nothing positive can be stated about consciousness.
The Soul, the ‘Self’ is the One without a second. There is not the least shadow of multiplicity in the Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness.
Sage Sankara says ~ V.63 ~ "Without knowing and examining the external world, one can’t know the Truth, as the idea that the external world exists, won't go. It can go only by an inquiry into the nature of the external world.
Remember:~
The ‘Self’ is hidden by the world in which you exist. Without examining the world in which you exist, it is impossible to realize the ‘Self’.
Thus, it is necessary to examine the world that confronts you first, in order to realize the ‘Self’, which is hidden by the world in which we exist.
Sage Sankara says you must first know what is before you. If you cannot know that, what else can you know or understand? If you give up the external world in your inquiry, you cannot get the whole truth.
Whatever the universe contains is nothing but the Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness.
Sage Sankara said: ~ Just as the snake is superimposed on the rope, this world and this body are superimposed on Brahman or the Soul the Self.
If one gets knowledge of the rope, the illusion of the snake will vanish. Even so, if he gets knowledge of Brahman, the illusion of the body and the world will vanish.
The snake is only an idea: it disappears on inquiry but deeper Self-search reveals the fact that the rope is also an idea and its reality will be exposed when wisdom dawns.
There is neither snake nor the rope in reality because from the ultimate standpoint the duality is merely an illusion created out of consciousness.:~Santthosh Kumaar
